Vintage Stormy Mountain turquoise squash blossom necklace
This is a SUPER STUNNING vintage Navajo sterling silver Squash Blossom necklace featuring 17 BEAUTIFUL Stormy Mountain turquoise stones! Stormy Mountain turquoise mine is located in Elko County, northeastern Nevada. Along with Blue Diamond mine, Stormy Mountain is known for producing hard, dark blue turquoise that includes a blotchy, black or brown chert matrix that resembles storm clouds.
This mine is presently not active and is an extremely valuable addition to ones collection. The gorgeous Stormy Mountain turquoise in this old Squash Blossom necklace are subtle shades of bright Sky Blue with just a teensy hint of green & yellow in a few stones. The matrix consists of INCREDIBLE spiderwebs of fine black & brown host rock....
Each hand-cut cabochon is set in a deep smooth bezel and surrounded with hand-twisted silver wire roping and a notched silver rim. The side blossoms have a fluted silver petal beneath each setting, while the naja is back-to-back settings arranged around a double crescent of heavy gauge, half-round silver bands.
The handmade bench beads are strung, along with the naja & side blossoms, on a sturdy corded wire that fastens with a traditional hook-and-eye clasp. The silver has a warm, rich patina that will polish up nicely, should you so desire. I recommend using a silver polishing cloth to brighten the silver's highlights without removing any of the valuable patina & HISTORY of the necklace! This is a PHENOMENAL Squash Blossom with incredible style and Stormy Mountain turquoise! Perfect with a sweater & jeans as well as a night out on the town!
