I was told by my father, who was a dealer in Native American antiquities that the old Navajo artisans always left one part undone or finished differently to let any "bad spirits" escape the piece. You can see that here in photo #4 -- one of the squash blossom pieces has a different stamped edging than the other pieces. This necklace measures 24 inches, not including the center piece, which adds an additional 3 inches to the length. A hook and hoop form the closure.
