Old Cherokee Mother closed her jewelry store in 1985, (Kathy's Turquoise Gallery). She & I have just found boxes of her remaining stock, which I will be listing from now till Christmas. Mother would travel twice a year to the Indian Reservations out West, searching for the most beautiful hand-made Turquoise & Silver pieces to bring back to her store in Bossier City, Louisiana. She had great knowledge about the Tribes and the Turquoise mines. I will tell specifics about each piece if she can remember. Each side of the main string measures 12 inches from the clasp to the pendant for a total of 24 inches. The Sterling Silver Naja measures approximately 2.13/16" across x 2.3/4" long. MATERIALS: Sterling Silver 7mm Bench Beads, Blossoms, Settings, and Clasp. Fabulous OLD "Smooth & Glossy" NATURAL Kingman Turquoise Stones. The Blossoms measure 1 1/2" Long x 3/4" Wide. BENCH BEADS are hammered, one side at a time, then soldered together, one at a time, the Artist's bench is usually a tree stump. WEIGHT: The total weight of the necklace is 158 grams. When Southwestern Native Americans found turquoise, they saw in it the blue, open sky that stretched over their desert homelands. It also represented life-giving water and the green tones of the earth. S deep connection to the world around them, Native Americans saw turquoise as a protecting force. It drew in helpful spirits, repelled demons, brought prosperity and encouraged the free flow of thoughts in its wearer.
